Griz is gay

GRiZ, the Detroit DJ and producer, opened up about his sexuality earlier this week, in an inspiring and candid op-ed published by the Huffington Post. In the op-ed, titled 'My Name is GRiZ and ', the bass-leaning DJ detailed the struggles and realities of growing up as a gay man. Detroit DJ and producer GRiZ has published a new op-ed on Huffington Post publicly announcing for the first time that he identifies as gay.

The telling gives intimate details of his early conflicts coping with his identity as a homosexual teen and how with time he has learned to proudly stand in the spotlight as a member of the LGBT community. Today, Grant Kwiecinski better known as GRiZ came out as gay in a touching statement on Huffington Post, making him a new role model for LGBT kids!. Today, Metro Detroit’s own DJ and Producer Grant Kwiecinski better known by his stage name GRiZ, issued a statement via Huffington Post coming out to the world as gay.

Though the statement was inspiring and triumphant, GRiZ highlights the emotional and mental struggles he went through in his youth coming to terms with his sexuality.

Metro Detroit native and rising EDM superstar GRiZ (also known as Grant Kwiecinski) wrote a blog post for the Huffington Post today detailing his journey with coming to terms with his sexuality. In the bares all article in which Griz comes out, he shares the trauma of feeling like something was wrong with him during adolescence; the crushing pressure of a culture that portrays only heterosexuality as normal.

He goes so far as to say he would have bartered with God to be straight.

That leap of faith resulted in the freedom to fully express himself and form a community that he trusted. The rest it seems is history, and history still in the making. His most recent single, Good Will Prevail, immediately made its way to 1 on the electronic music charts. His announcement this Gay Pride Month has allowed him to use his now lofty platform to create more inclusion, acceptance and pride.

One of the best things about rave culture and produced music has been its orientation towards togetherness. With one of the biggest names in the game now sending that message in an even more powerful and personal way it seems like the sky is the limit for the positive change that electronic artists can create from their current position of heavy influence. In recent years an increasing number of women have become major players in the DJ world but it has classically been a male dominated scene.

As in most scenes that are yet to diversify, the topic of sexual orientation has not been brought to the main stage with our favorite electronic artists. Related Posts.
